PROMO COMMITTEE - Ideas?

JohnPromo BrainStorming

If the AFU 'Promo Committee' wants to get former facilitators to present their dormant courses again, we may wish to send a slightly revised copy of the following Santa Cruz's Free Skool message to the complete list of names of AFU facilitators from the past. I'll help do it if somebody else steps forward to help get me started. With an overview of increasing the numbers of classes available, a special welcome might be extended to any popular class and/or anarchist related classes. Some of the obsolete or unpopular courses may need to be culled or not solicited depending on the AFU's seasons, or if we think that the course calendar can become bloated. These notions or premises above are only vague opinions not suggestions. What do you think? ...John, Oct 10, 2005

A good facilitator is like a GoodOrganizer (example)

I have become a member of Free Skool Santa Cruz to study their stuff, and I also intend to join the Guelph Anarchist Free Skool when Possom has their website up and running. How can I help the Guelph people get off to a good start? I already have a top facilitator for Guelph's first course calendar - Julian of K-Y in Kitchener - youth_space@hotmail.com. He offered to do a class at AFU about six months ago and this could be his trial run where Guelph is very close to Kitchener and Toronto would be a travel-time slog with the 8 to 10 visits required.
Much of these matters may become living topics on our upcoming new conversation forum message board. (Some early message systems ... continued 5 lines below). at the bottom of this page the 3 or 4 messages titled Low priority reading below this point are about forms and have a promo element to them, where they chase new facilitators into being prompt and responsible. Later we might transfer some of their forms to our forms area of our site when we start a forms page. This might morph into larger uses including - forms, suggestions or regulations, a couple of course outline samples (or one very brief and one comprehensive one), a couple of course proposal samples, etc.

Conversation forum message boards
(( ...1)_Some early message systems don't allow one to revise the original post, leaving people to curse themselves for writing before thinking.

......2)_ A MODERATOR OF A CONVERSATION FORUM MUST HAVE A BROAD KNOWLEDGE of the axis of evil; the axis of the world's 'top down democracies' and bottom up democratic values; the axis of corporate monopoly and civil society; the axis of the rich feeding off the poor and maybe the most important of all, the difficult blurred axis of tactics and goals where an aversion to violence cannot be the sole determinate when one reminds that "The_needs_of_the_many_come_before_the_needs_of_the_few" where other cultures place a lower value on human life for the very best of spiritual reasons. Our Western false ego fear of death and pain appears sociopathology to the Hindu culture and the Buddha.

In April 2001 a day after I got back from the anti-FTAA in Quebec City, Judy Rebick's Babble.ca's moderator Audra who is totally naive, fell victim to the flattery and stroking of a right winger posterer called "WAGEpeace" who completely took over the forum by assembling a number of his groupies with more treacherous flattery. The best two posterers were kicked off the chat forum right under the nose of Judy Rebick whose incompetence is legend to those who have tried to work with her. She would not even respond to my e-mails when I wrote her to help her fix her problems. I contacted the other guy Craig Hubley who had been kicked off, and we two Rebick outlaws have been cyber pals ever since. Over the years I've learned a lot from things he's said but never met him.))

Useful samples for AFU if a need arises.

The following messages may be useful samples for AFU if a need arises to urge new facilitators to respect AFU with responsible followup. If someone were to phones an AFU member and ask for a personal reference, it would make one uncomfortable if one were to tell the truth: " He or she seemed all set up to begin facilitating a course then simply disappeared into thin air without notice and left all her waiting potential students and AFU hanging. " -- Don't get a bad reputation for yourself in your activist community. Make sure that AFU's course information on AFU's website has all your correct updates.
